Probably the last decade before the digital revolution took hold in the 80s, and before bankers swapped the first letter of their job title for another one much later in the alphabet, and when all men, and even some women had beards and wore sandals without shame. It's also the decade during which, somehow, every single guitar that was ever made looks incredibly cool 30 years on. This sultry Gretsch Country Gent is a prefect example of what I'm talking about. Gorgeous wood, barn storming pickups, wonderful feel, cool as fudgecake, it is obviously not the kind of guitar that fits the hippy image, but like an Aston Martin, or an ice cube, it scores top marks simply for being soooo cool. A Tennessean you'd really like to meet, this guitar from 1966 has come all the way to London just to say hello, and depsite suffering slightly from its 44 years (a few wrinkles shall we we say), still ready and raring to be played.
