Martin F-7, 1935

Price: £4995
SOLD!!! This Martin F-7 is, it's safe to say, a pretty rare piece. Pretty and rare in equal measure. This model, an archtop made from Brazilian Rosewood, was made by Martin between 1935 and 1942, and this particular piece is therefore a first year of issue. The age of the instrument has added provenance in the shape of one or two pictures of it being played by the wife of the previous owner (the only owner we think), back in the day. The original hard case has also lasted the distance and is still with the guitar. I couldn't do justice to this guitar in the space of three pictures, so if you'd like to see more, just send an email enquiry or phone us at the shop, and we'll email you more.

The quintessential rosewood dreadnought becomes super-quintessential when you factor in the holy grail of tone woods for such guitars, Brazilian Rosewood. And just like an Emporer dripping in the finest robes, this beautiful Martin D28 from 1967 has certainly been turning heads since its auspicious arrival at Wunjo towers with its endowment of the afore-mentioned rainforest bounty. Not only this, very few people have ever seen such a clean example of a D28 from this period, it's virtually mint, putting it, rather ironically, in line for a collector's glass case as much as for the player looking for the ultimate tone machine. A beautiful guitar of rare preserve. Hard case included.

Not one of the better known models, but who cares when your eyes are popping out at a lovely bit of Brazilian rosewood which adorns the back and sides of this beautiful 1961 Martin D-21. Martin only made the D-21 from 1955 through to 1969, so in fact it is a bit of a forgotten legend. Just why Martin chose to cast this model aside shall remain a mystery. Maybe one of them gave one of the luthiers a splinter. Whatever the reason, the D-21 shall be celebrated for leaving the world a slightly better place. Not top dollar due to a bit of professionally repaired cracking, hard case included.

From close to the top of Martin's Vintage series tree (and what a lovely toneful tree it is), is the beautiful OM-28V. In fact, the V has a double meaning, as not only does it evoke the pre-war appointments that are featured in the guitar, it also averts your attention to the profile of the neck, that modified V profile favoured by you know who (see above), as well as a number of your everyday players. The all solid spruce/rosewood combination delivering a crisp and punchy tone, and the wide string spacing, make this the finger-pickers dream guitar. Hard case included.

Price: £2449
The HD28 is one of my favourite of all the Martin Guitars. It's not JUST a rosewood dreadnought you see. In fact, it's not even JUST a Martin rosewood dreadnought. It's a Standard Series Martin Rosewood dreadnought with handcrafted herringbone binding, which gives the guitar just that little bit more class, that je ne sais pas quoi, that little bit of magic that makes you feel special. The HD28 features scalloped X-bracing and ebony fingerboard and bridge. Hard case included.

Exactly the kind of guitar you'd expect from Martin's standard series. A good honest triple-O with genuine solid mahogany back and sides and a solid sitka spruce top, glossed off nicely on the top, with the added feature of interest, that being the use of 'vintage toner' to make that mahogany look just that little bit fruitier. If you want that bright-but-not-too-bright finger picking tone, then this will be the guitar for you, provided you don't mind living in beans on toast for a couple of months. Hard case included.

Price: £1995
Nowadays, Martin have moved so far away from their pre-war past, that the days of classic archtops like these are long forgotten, preferring as they do to concentrate on maintaining their reputation for the world's finest X-braced flat-tops. So just to remind us, here is a beautiful archtop Martin C1 from 1934 in exceptional condition. In fact, this piece has seen a bit of refinishing on the back and on the headstock, so it's not perfect, but that's not what this guitar is about. It's about vintage tone and feel, and you won't get much more vintagey-toney-feely. An original 1934 Martin Archtop... nuff said. Sold complete with a hard case.

Martin 0-17, 1936

Price: £1995
When Martin started making their 'Vintage Series' of guitars that you see elsewhere on this page, it was guitars like these that they were basing them on. This 0-17 model from 1936 is a bit like a happy Grandad: Old, fun, full of good stories, still in one piece, a bit wrinkly, but on great form, and commanding of the upmost respect. Our example here has survived its 84 years in fully original condition with the exception of a set of changed tuners. It's a rare old thing and, having had a little play on it, I can tell you it sounds fantastic, but makes you work for it with that big clubby V-profile neck. A real guitar! Complete with hard case.
