John Grey 5-String

Price: £1,395.00

Year: 1930

This 5-string Banjo by the John Grey company (UK) is a fine example of a pre-war folk instrument still going strong having survived a world war and a fair few harsh British winters along the way. For historical interest, banjolin.co.uk writes “John Grey & Sons Ltd. was a subsidiary company of Barnett Samuel & Sons for the making and selling of banjos, guitars and drums. The banjos were designed and manufactured by Francis Beddard, an Englishman who went to work for S.S.Stewart in America and returned in 1901. It is not clear whether John Grey was an actual person or not apart from the historical figure.” This is a stunning piece for you banjo players out there, complete with a beautifully engraved resonator back (see picture 5) and a fretboard inlayed with some lovely mother of pearl (pictures 6 and 7). We are selling complete with a hard case.
