Hofner 500/1 62 Mersey Violin Bass

£1849.00

Having spent an awful long time trying to think of the best name for this bass, Hofner have finally settled on a name that could be deemed as completely wrong. The Violin bass, in this particular spec and appearance with the 'Staple' pickups, wasn't really seen until 1963 you see. The bass that Paul McCartney made famous was like a child born late, and only hit the main markets in 63, even though technically it was conceived the year before, hence why they've called it the '62. And it certainly wasn't designed or built anywhere near the river Mersey, but the Macca association is so integral to the very existence and enduring appeal of the violin bass, that they'd be mad not to acknowledge it in any less obvious a way. All the fixtures and fittings are period correct of course, down to the Staple pickups and the Pearl control plate with gold fronted knobs, and the Hofner fretted ebony bridge. It looks the part, and with a set of flat wound strings on it, it's about as close to that classic 60s tone as you'll hope to get for an affordable price. These are available from new here at Wunjo along with the rest of the Hofner range.
