Let's talk about this Hofner 64 500/1 Violin Bass. Some guy called Phil McLarty used one in his band who did alright and now everyone associates this powerfully distinctive bass with flutey, melodically astute note work and a dense, harmonically rich sound. Hardly surprising given the construction of it, but what is it that makes it such a winner? Well, the top is made from select German Spruce paired with a Maple body, so you've got plenty of breath and cut. The 3-piece Maple neck keeps things strong and sharp, and the 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard's shorter scale means you can roam all over this thing while singing complex harmonies without the stretch. The two pickups are Hofner H511B Staple-top humbuckers, wired through a Hofner HA2-B control plate; here you'll find independent volume controls and on/off switches for the pickups as well as a rhythm/solo switch which puts the pickups in series for major thumping. German-built, these are painfully handsome instruments, and though we at Wunjos have heard of them being used for everything from mod to sludge (that's right), this is simply a damn fine bass that's beautifully made, so get down and give it a blast! Protected by a three year warranty with our paperback techs, this Hofner 64 500/1 Violin Bass is available at Wunjos with a hard case as standard.
