Flicking through the vintage guide, perusing the list of Martin Dreadnoughts made over history, it is not until you get to 'D-18' that you see anything pre 80s. The D-18 and the D-28 were the original Martin Dreadnoughts, and really nothing else came along until the 70s. The D-18 then, stands alone as the mahogany dreadnought that set the bar for everyone else. In the present day, walk around your average acoustic guitar show room and it'll be wall to wall mahogany dreadnoughts. Here's where it all started, in 1932. By 1977, when this lovely example was made, the D-18 had evolved into a 14 fret scallop-braced flat top with a spruce top, rosewood bridge and a black pick guard. This piece has lasted the distance in decent nick, and is an original piece that has been played, loved, coveted. It offers a tremendous tone, big and dread-ish, plenty at the bottom end, and great for flat picking. A very playable neck makes for an effortless playing experience, so all you have to worry about is sounding amazing. This is a lovely late seventies Martin, a rare old bird, an awesome flat top. Original Case included.
