Teisco Del Ray EP-8T Black MIJ (1960s)

Under ‘taken for granted back in the day’ you’ll no doubt find a picture of this, a vintage ‘60s Teisco Del Rey EP-8T. These guitars didn’t get the recognition they deserved back when, and it’s only in hindsight that players are starting to clock what spiffy little guitars they were. Made in Japan during the 1960s, the EP-8T is a semi-hollow gem with some very ‘60s appointments. The zero fret, for instance, the open-ear tuners, and the multi-piece neck hark back to a time when flowers went in your hair and shirts were optional under your denim waistcoat. This one isn’t entirely original, as the mad single coils have been swapped out for a pair of mini humbuckers. These replacements are still wired to the original independent on/off switches and master Volume/Tone knobs though - the former skirted plastic ones have been replaced with Tele-style knurled numbers instead. The small-block-inlaid Rosewood board, however, is still intact, as is the fabulously retro-futuristic logo on the headstock. At the body end, the grooved bridge is still very much in place, as is the vibrato, though the arm has been removed for practicality’s sake. This is a super-cool instrument that’s been modified for everyday gig use, which makes it a bit of find. We don’t see these very often, so get down to the shop and give it a blast! Protected by a three year warranty with our augmented techs, this ‘60s Teisco Del Rey is available at
