While the world had gone mad for Seth Lover’s PAF humbucker pickup in the 50s, all thick and thunderous, there were still enough players out there in the 60s demanding a brighter tone. Especially considering the proliferation of Fenders, Gibson players of blues and country still wanted a bit of jangle in their life, and to admirably cater for this, Gibson introduced the ES-330 in 1959 the year after the flagship 335 was introduced, equipping its semi-hollow body with a very lovely set of P-90 single coils. The example we have here is a sunburst TD (Thinline, Double pickup), with a P-90 at the neck and the bridge, allowing the player a delicious choice of tones, bright, brighter, or blindingly bright all at the flick of a switch. There are a few changes: tuners have been replaced, and we're pretty sure the Bigsby is retro fitted and the pots have also been replaced, but it certainly does shine a bright light. Playing it is a joy of course. Roll back the tone, and it goes all warm, so if you did want to jazz it up a bit, the 330 still has the tone in the locker. This 1967 piece is a beautiful example with mother of pearl block inlays and chrome dog-ear covers on the pickups. Complete with Hard Case.
