There's all sorts of things to think about when you buying your first electro-acoustic, but add in to the mix a variation in the type of wood the guitar is made from, and you could be forgiven for having a brain meltdown. However, an all mahogany guitar is not all that un-common anymore, with many of the big acoustic brands offering something along those lines. Takamine's offering comes in the shape of the new GD11MCE (and the standard non-electro GD11M that you can read about elsewhere on these pages). This is a big bad mahogany (M) dreadnought with a cutaway (C) and an electro pickup (E). Mahogany is well known for producing quite a warm sound, so in the dreadnought shape, you can expect a great big bucket load of thumping tone, plenty of volume and lots of response in the lower frequencies, otherwise known as a nice bassy sound. Fitted with the standard TP-4T pickup, you can plug this in at gigs or open mic sessions and be assured that it will back up your playing and singing with a jolly nice sound that floats effortlessly off the strings. These are lovely guitars at a great price and are available new at Wunjo.
