So ice cold it caused the recent blizzard, this vintage 1964 National Glenwood 98 is a prize and then some. These map-bodied guitars have found a serious following in the last 15 years with the likes of Jack White, Dan Auerbach and our own Jimmy O all falling under the National spell. Rare as hens' teeth but more useful, this white example has changed tuners and a new bridge, though by 'new' we mean 'some time in the distant past'. Other than these practical modifications, this Res-O-Glas-built magician is as it was when it left the factory. Fitted with a Bisgsby B5 tailpiece, this creamy king was years ahead of its time; the top horn-mounted tone switch went from neck, to bridge, to bridge-mounted transducer, with each of these options having independent volume and tone controls (hence the plethora of knobs). Those broad-looking pickups are huge single coils, and it will come as a surprise to no-one that this beast loves a good ratty fuzz. The Rosewood fingerboard is mounted on a Maple neck, and boasts some seriously OTT inlay work as well as a zero fret and that magnificent headstock, topped with the National logo. This is the real deal, not a repro or anything else, and if you want that distinctive retro sound, this is it! Now protected by a three year warranty with our Res-O-techs, this vintage 1964 National Glenwood 98 is available at Wunjos with a hard case as standard.
