Part of a new line introduced by The Great Builders, the Yamaha Revstar RS720B is the top of the Revstar range. Yamaha have built everything forever, and building on the legacy of their famous SG series, these double-cut kings are niftily specced to take on all comers. Never one to shy away from sturdiness and practicality, the RS720B is built from the good stuff; a Mahogany body is topped with a steel wool-finished flame Maple top, inspired by the look of Japan's Cafe Racers. A Mahogany neck is paired with a Rosewood fingerboard inlaid with split rhombus (rhombi?), but the real work here has gone into the pickups. Yamaha always went the extra mile with their magnetic work, and this instance is no different. Fitted with a set of bespoke YGD Filtertron-style units, these Alnico 5-based units are designed with a low-output ring to them, so everything you do can be heard. Not content with this detail, the RS720B has a dry switch, which uses a passive filter circuit to syphon off low frequencies and deliver a proper single coil sound, without the shrillness and papery nature commonly associated with such a split. Completed by a Bigsby B-50 vibrato, this is a serious contender for your time, and you'd be doing yourself a right disservice if you didn't come and whack it through one of our myriad overdrives! Protected by a three year warranty with our racy techs, the Yamaha Revstar RS720B is available at Wunjos with a gig bag as standard.
