The singlecut that put the Swedish company on the map, the Hagstrom Swede is a design classic. A mainstay of the Scandinavians since the ‘70s, this gently-arched twin-humbucker monster has been rocking stages worldwide for decades, and its modern iteration is, if anything, even better. Built around a Mahogany body with a Mahogany top, the Swede has a Mahogany neck topped with a Resinator fingerboard. However, this isn’t just any old neck - contained within is Hagstrom’s own H-Expander truss rod which gives maximum support and strength while improving neck stability. The Resinator fingerboard material is used to behave the way Ebony does but without the drawbacks, and is a composite of woods that is incredibly strong. Inlaid with 22 Medium Jumbo frets and a fitted with a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut, this 15” radius fingerboard is infinitely comfortable and should feel at home to just about any player. When it comes to the electronics, Hagstrom have opted for a pair of Alnico Custom 58 Humbuckers wired up to twin Volume and Tone knobs with a 3-way toggle, and go one step further with their 3-way ‘Sound Filter Toogle Switch’ as described on their website. The bridge is a long-travel Tune-O-Matic with a Hagstrom Stop Tailpiece and Single Brass String Blocks, and the Swede gets a set of Hagstrom’s own design 18:1 ratio tuners to keep everything right.
