Springboarding from the popularity of Hawaiian Swing music in the 40s, the newly formed Fender Electric Instrument Company begain releasing their first Lap Steels and in doing so, the foundations of the solid body electric instruments that would put the Fender name on the map were set. 

Introduced as a student model, this beautiful 1962 Champ Lap Steel proved that just because the construction is simple, it can still look the business! Looking like a classic car with its bevelled edges and blonde finish, an elegant and well designed recessed peg head and chrome control plate housing the original Fender single coil pickup.
