S/H 1965 Gibson SG Special, Cherry Red

Somethin' Special about it! 

Gibson broke the mould when they debuted the 'Les Paul' SG in 1961. After blowing the doors open with their original LP design it was clear that there was a gap in their repertoire that was being taken advantage of by some of their competitors. A sleek, lightweight and highly contoured Mahogany body design with a double cut-away for faster fret access, the SG was built for speed and impact on stage. A genre defining instrument that continues to be a crowd favourite to this day. 

The SG Special bridged the gap between the Standard and Junior models, loaded with twin P-90 single coil pickups with independent volume/tone controls, a bound fretboard and available at the time with either a compensated wrap-around bridge or Maestro Vibrola, it offered style, versatility and affordability to an eagerly awaiting market and this particular '65 hard tail model is a fantastic example as to why. 

It's come to us in wonderful condition, wearing it's years with pride and the majority of its originality intact. It's had some work done to keep it playing; a refret, changed tuners and a replacement bridge pickup cover but there's no evidence of any breaks or major repairs, just patina, play wear and charm! 

Both pickups sound fantastic, delivering that classic bite and articulation with a mid-focused depth to them and they really come alive when you introduce a bit of gain into your signal chain. The slim taper neck is super comfortable to get around with a narrower, late '65 1-9/16" nut width.
