This gorgeous, first year of production Gibson L6-S has just arrived in lovely condition and with its original, purple lined hard case.
Introduced as the successor of the Gibson L5-S (the solid body, thinline version of Gibson's most popular Archtop, the L-5), the L6-S aimed to achieve as much tonal variety as possible from one instrument. Designed by the inimitable Bill Lawrence, this all Maple powerhouse, loaded with its original Super Humbuckers, has a chicken-head rotary dial that gives you access to different wiring and phase options within the pickup combinations:
- Both pickups, in series
- Neck pickup, alone
- Both pickups, in parallel
- Both pickups, parallel out of phase, with the neck pickup's bass response restricted through a series capacitor.
- Bridge pickup, alone
- Both pickups, series out of phase.
Not only that but the L6-S also features a mid-range roll off control knob in between the master volume and tone control and it was Gibson's first foray into a full 24 fret scale length.
This guitar really is a feat of engineering from Gibson and whilst there were 12,000 made in '73 we certainly don't see them roll through our door all that often! Obviously they're guitars worth hanging on to!
It sounds wicked, feels great and is set up and ready to go. Including our three year set up and servicing warranty all in the price.
