1958 Fender Precision Bass, Blonde Refinish
1958 Fender Precision Bass, Blonde Refinish
Wow - what a stunner, but like a lot of people these days, this bass has had some work done!
This is a player-grade example of a late 50’s precision bass! The body has a polyurethane refinish in blonde (it’s original colour) and the neck has been refinished with polyurethane lacquer to maintain its near new appearance! It’s also likely that the decal is a replacement and that the neck has been shaved down. Whoever has done this however, has done a thorough job & been sympathetic to its original vibe.
The cap has been replaced with a vintage correct one and the front coil of the pickup has been rewound. This can be seen in the photos where one wind is clearly shinier (technical term) than the other.
Now that the formalities are out of the way let’s get to how it sounds. In short, incredible. The neck is like butter and it’s currently strung with Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds which gives that period-correct vibe.
This has to be one of the best precisions we’ve ever had through our door and is a great way to get a slice of ‘50s Fender history, without the accompanying fear of keeping it in a vault. Take it out and play it!
